1. Can I participate with a project from an architectural competition?
The BLL awards are open for real building projects only. One could apply with a project from an architectural competition only in case the project is selected as winner and will be or is already build.
2. Can I participate with a student project?
VELUX IVA is a different platform, specially for architectural students who would like to deep dive into the theme of daylight. The BLL award is open for real building projects only.
3. Can I participate even though I am not an architect?
If in the country of origin a person is allowed to submit a project for architectural design for a building permit, than this person is allowed to participate with the project.
4. Can I participate with more than one project?
Yes, there is no restriction to the number of uploaded projects per author.

6. How can I find out if everything uploaded is really saved online?
In the “My project” area one could click the uploaded projects one by one and check the availability of data in question. One could also contact the BLL team by e-mail for support: bll@velux.com
7. Can I participate with a project where the roof glazing is a type of roof structural gazing / facade?
A roof structural façade delivers different architectural qualities and could be hardly compared with roof windows solutions. Therefore, similar projects would not be considered.
8. Can I participate with an already built project?
9. Can I participate with a project that is still in the conceptual phase?
Yes, it still needs to be a real project, with a physical location, investor, certain development schedule.
10. Can I change and supplement the files I uploaded after the initial upload?
Yes, the files could be replaced, deleted, edited till the project upload deadline.
11. What types of files can I upload?
JPG files, 300ppi - print quality files are to be uploaded.
12. How many files can I upload?
There is no restriction to the number of uploaded files. All would be visible online. For the project dashboard however, only selected number of the files will be considered, corresponding to the selected dashboard layout.
13. What are the parameters for evaluation of the projects by the jury?
These are the five parameters:
- Daylight - effective distribution into the building
- View to the outside and bringing the outside nature in
- Effective utilization of the space under the roof elements
- Design and esthetic look
- Visualization and presentation
14. Can I participate as an architect from another country if the project with which I will participate is located in one of the countries participating in the awards?
Yes.
15. Can I participate as an architect, based in one of the countries participating in the awards if the project I will participate with will be built in a country that does not participate in the awards?
Yes.
16. Which countries are participating in the 2020 awards?
There are 7 countries participating for 2020: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Makedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Turkey
17. Does the number of roof windows used in the project matter for the jury's evaluation?
No. The subject of the BLL awards is to prize and share good architecture. Number of roof windows is irrelevant.
18. Can I participate if I do not have visualizations or photos of the project?
Yes. However visualizations are a critical asset for the project perception. Any type of illustrations are welcome (hand sketches, paintings, pictograms, model photos, real on-site photos) and statistically increase the points number received from the jury.
19. Can I participate only with photos and visualizations of the project?
No, the minimum project documentation consists of: floorplan, section(s), façade(s) where the roof windows or sun tunnels are visible.
20. Can I send the materials for participation in BLL2020 printed on paper by mail?
The jury process is done online. There is no physical gathering of the jury members. Therefore online project upload is obligatory.
